Will your home caregivers and companions drive my parents to appointments or  shopping?

Reliance Home Caregivers can drive your parents to appointments in your parent's car, in their own care or we can arrange to accompany them in another mode of transportation. However, our caregivers will not leave your parents alone to do the shopping or run errands, if this will compromise your parent's safety. If needed, we can help make any other arrangements to accomplish these tasks.

How do I know that the caregivers who come into my home are trustworthy?

Reliance Home Care has a very stringent hiring process. Only less than 10 percents of those applying for work at Reliance Home Care are hired to work as caregivers with our clients. Reliance Home Care must pass background check, drug test, driving record check before they begin their competency, orientation and training process. Medical home aides are further tested for transmissible diseases and physical ability.

How can I be assured that the home aides and companions you send to take care of my parents will know what to do?

All our home caregivers must pass a job and clinical competency test, which evaluates their skills and knowledge. Professional staff carefully reviews the plan of care with the caregiver assigned and conducts an onsite orientation, making certain that the caregiver fully understands the required tasks and that your parents and the caregiver are clear about assigned duties and responsabilities. On occasion, however, clients have circumstances or needs which may require additional training. Our professional staff is available to provide extra training and we can recruit for caregivers with specialized experience.

I know my mother needs help, but how do I determine what kind of help she needs?

The Reliance Home Care will make recommendations about the services and care your mother needs. We will base our recommendations on a comprehensive, in-home assessment of her living situation, her functional, medical and emotional status. We will also consult with her physicians, as well as relevant financial and legal factors.

How often are the home aides and companions supervised?

Upon beginning a new assignment, every caregiver receives an personal introduction and orientation to the client's care plan. Reliance Home Care staff provides onsite supervision of each caregiver at least once a month. Our clients, however, may require more professional involvement with their care which leads to more supervision of their caregivers.

What is the difference between hourly and live-in service?

The client is charged a flat daily rate for the live-in and an hourly rate for live-out. The live-in caregiver is paid on the basis of approximately 10 hours of intermittent work during a 24-hour period. The hourly live-out caregivers are paid for the number of  hours they are on assignment. The live-in is available primarily during waking hours, must have a place to sleep, receive meal and be able to get adequate rest at night while supervising the client's personal care.

Am I responsible for providing meals for the home caregivers?

Clients provide full room and board for live-in caregivers. Hourly workers bring their own food unless the family requests otherwise. Families may not want the caregiver to bring food from the outside or they want the caregiver to share the meal with the client.

How are the home aides and companions paid? What about vacation and Holidays?

Our caregivers are independent contractors. They may not receive any funds from clients. They are working on vacation and Holidays or can be substituted.

What happens if I want to change the home aide or companion?

We will make every effort to provide you with a home aide who is compatible with you and we encourage you to call if you want to change the caregiver.

What happens if the home aide or companion can't come to work?

The home aide or companion will notify the office as much as possible so that the suitable substitute can assist the client. In case of illness, a back-up caregiver trained for the client needs will immediately continue the service. Even if it is a case of a last minute emergency call off, Reliance Home Care will provide coverage.
